Interrupting Play: How to Break the Habit

If play is good, why do we stop it so much? Dive into ways well-meaning adults arrange the day that deprives children of play. We’ll look at signs of a true play-based program, examine needs for time and space, and identify areas in your day where you can give play a boost. Heather Shumaker, author of the classic book IT’S OK NOT TO SHARE, offers ideas to free up “free play.”

Attendees will:
Examine benefits of large blocks of play time.
Discover three basic questions to ask before stopping/ controlling play.
Identify common adult habits (including schedules) that impact free play.
